Frictionmaster is a user-friendly software program and a necessary tool for all drilling engineers involved in deviated or horizontal wells. By calculating mechanical properties like force, stress, torque, circulation pressure losses and along-hole depth corrections, it can predict lockup and maximum run-in depth. The obvious things to check is: can the well be drilled with the current equipment and furthermore can it be maintained? The software can also be used in a special snubbing mode. The software is based on results of intensive experimental and theoretical studies at Rogaland Research on buckling and post-buckling behaviour. The mechanical models have been validated by full-scale test results and field data.
